2011 BOOKWICH /
Each spring, 826 Valencia organizes a fundraising luncheon with an invited guest and 2011′s event was with Academy Award-nominated actress, Catherine Keener. Entitled Bookwich, the theme of the event invitation was a layered sandwich with book titles representing the elements in between the bread. We wanted to capture the personality and quirkiness of the organization while at the same time not compromising the elegance of the venue, the St. Regis Hotel, as well as the actual meal (not a sandwich!) that was to be served.

The event invitation was designed in a vertical, bi-fold format inspired by a restaurant menu. Other materials such as thank you notes, name cards and other materials were designed to match the same style. I created the illustrations and collaborated with copywriters for the final output.

The Bookwich event was an overall success, raising over $108,000 from sponsors, donations and volunteers. The money earned will help 826 continue to offer student programming at schools throughout San Francisco and their writing lab. 

8/26 DAY WRITE-A-THON /
As a culmination of 826 Valencia’s 8/26 Day Write-a-thon event, we produced a postcard featuring excerpts from the written works generated during the 8-hour marathon. The postcards were sent out to its participants as a remembrance of the event and as a celebration of its success.
